What programs, projects, or organizations use zirconium hydroxide for decontamination and contamination mitigation, and what is its efficacy against all possible CBRN threats, including TICs/TIMs?

On May 17, 2021, the Homeland Defense and Security Information Analysis Center (HDIAC) received a technical inquiry through the HDIAC website, www.hdiac.org, which asked for information on decontamination or contamination mitigation using zirconium hydroxide.

The inquirer was interested in learning about any programs, projects, or organizations which use zirconium hydroxide for decontamination and contamination mitigation and its efficacy against all possible chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, including toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and toxic industrial materials (TIMs).

The inquirer requested any efficacy data – how zirconium hydroxide works, any equipment or applicator used or needed, and any hazards that may be created.
