Professor of Psychology, Old Dominion University

James Bliss joined the Psychology Department at Old Dominion University as an associate professor in 2001. He was awarded tenure in 2004, promoted to Full Professor in 2012, and served as Department Chair from 2013 to 2016. He conducts research with his students in the areas of virtual environments for task training and alarm (and automation) mistrust. He is specifically interested in what factors contribute to the development of mistrust, and how designers and trainers can optimize compliance to automated systems.
